About

We are a community-focused bookstore and gathering space located in Kensington, Brooklyn and also serving the Prospect Park South, Windsor Terrace, and Ditmas Park areas. Founded on the principles of unparalleled customer service, expert curation and recommendations, accessibility, representation, and connection, Lofty Pigeon Books aims to offer a truly exceptional bookstore experience.

Our Story

Briana and Davi, the wife-and-husband team behind Lofty Pigeon Books, met working at The Corner Bookstore on the Upper East Side in 2008. Each had nurtured a lifelong dream to open their own bookstore, and together it felt not just possible, but inevitable. Briana is a lifelong Brooklynite and Davi has called the borough home since 2007. The COVID-19 pandemic solidified their desire to invest in and give back to their community, and they spent the next three years finding the perfect space before opening Lofty Pigeon Books at 743 Church Avenue in 2023.

Meet the Staff

Briana

Co-Owner (she/her)

A third-generation Brooklynite, Briana emerged from the fetid waters of Sheepshead Bay. For ten years she was an editor at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, until she decided to take the leap into bookstore ownership and operationship. She loves to read anything that transports her.

Davi

Co-Owner (he/him)

Davi hails from California. Born in San Francisco, he began his bookselling career at the tender age of 17 (RIP Borders Books and Music) and went on to work at independent bookstores the rest of his adult life—Phoenix Books and Cover to Cover in SF, and after moving to Brooklyn in 2007, WORD Bookstores, BookCourt, The Corner Bookstore, and P&T Knitwear. At the even more tender age of 40, he opened Lofty Pigeon Books.
